Sri Krishna Janmashtami Celebration

News Type : General News
Janmashtami is also called “Sri Krishna Jayanti” which is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Krishna. Krishna Janmashtami is observed on 8th day of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) in the Hindu calendar month of Shraavana, which corresponds to Gregorian months of August and September. Hindu’s believe that, nearly 6000 years ago, on the same day, Krishna was born to Vasudeva and Devaki, in the prison in Mathura, where they were confiscated by the evil demon Kamsa who was also the maternal uncle of Krishna. It is believed that Lord Vishnu took avtaar (reincarnation) in form of Krishna to end the evil rule of Kamsa by slaying him. Hindus see Krishna as the God of Love and compassion, having exceptional wit and intelligence. Thus, they celebrate his birth day with harmony and love towards all living beings. RRCN also observed the ‘Krishna Janmashtami’ in a customary way at its lobby with all the décor and folklore. The celebration included dahi handi breaking and also distributed the prasada.
