World Tuberculosis day 2025
March 24th Each year we commemorate World TB Day to raise public awareness about the devastating health, social and economic consequences of tuberculosis (TB) and to step up efforts to end the global TB epidemic.
The date marks the day in 1882 when Dr. Robert Koch announced that he had discovered the bacterium that causes TB, which opened the way towards diagnosing and curing this disease.
Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by bacteria that most often affects the lungs. It spreads through the air when people with TB cough, sneeze or spit.
Tuberculosis is preventable and curable.
About a quarter of the global population is estimated to have been infected with TB bacteria. About 5–10% of people infected with TB will eventually get symptoms and develop TB disease.
Those who are infected but free of disease cannot transmit it. TB disease is usually treated with antibiotics and can be fatal without treatment.
In certain countries, the Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine is given to babies or small children to prevent TB. The vaccine prevents deaths from TB and protects children from serious forms of TB.
As apart of world TB day under the guidance of faculty members of medical surgical nursing dept, the students of 3rd semester conducted TB awareness program on April 2nd 2025 at Rajarajeswari Medical College and Hospital lobby . The theme for this year was “yes we can end TB: commit, invest & deliver” our students performed role play, fashion show and mime on showing symptoms, transmission and treatment of Tuberculosis, performance highlighting the importance of early detection and treatment by conducting this program created awareness among the public.
