Programme Overview:
The Department of Psychiatric Nursing, in collaboration with Dementia Alliance India, successfully conducted a “Dementia Caregiver Upskilling Programme” for GNM and B.Sc Nursing students. The programme aimed to build competence in evidence-based dementia care and address the growing need for skilled caregivers in geriatric mental health.

Sessions Conducted:
1. Understanding Dementia: Types, risk factors, stages, and red-flag signs
2. Skills Lab: Therapeutic communication, validation therapy, managing behavioral & psychological symptoms
3. Caregiver Empowerment: Activities of daily living support, cognitive stimulation, and reducing caregiver burden
4. Interactive Role-plays: Students practiced responding to agitation, wandering, and communication challenges in dementia

Outcome:
The sessions equipped students with practical skills in person-centered dementia care, use of screening tools, and counseling techniques. Active participation was seen in hands-on activities and case-based discussions. Pre-test and post-test assessments showed significant improvement in knowledge and confidence levels.
